Harvey James Anderson (USA) - Vice President of Business Affairs and General Counsel at Mozilla. In this role, Harvey leads the business affairs, policy and legal teams. Harvey joined Mozilla in 2008 as the organization’s first in-house counsel. Harvey has counseled Internet, technology, and software clients in complex commercial transactions, as well as financial, corporate, litigation, and intellectual property matters for the past 20 years.
Maria Bonnefon – joined the Canonical team in 2006. She has worked in various roles including Strategic Alliance Manager for Intel and OEM Partnership Manager where she was responsible for establishing the OEM Programme. She has actively contributed to establishing alliances with major OEMs including Dell, Lenovo and Asus, as well as establishing partnerships local OEMs in EMEA, APAC, Latin America and PRC regions. She now leads the Market Development and Channel teams worldwide. She is an international business development expert with over 20 years experience both in the hardware and software fields. She has worked for various multi-national companies including Archos, Iomega and Mandriva. She holds an MBA from Georgia State University, a Masters in International Management from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Toulouse and a Bachelor in International Business from Auburn University. Venezuelan born, Maria is based in Bordeaux, France where she has lived for the past 14 years.
Kyle MacDonald – Vice President of Cloud for Canonical where he is responsible for marketing, sales, business development, and product engineering for Cloud within Canonical as well as leadership in the OpenStack ecosystem. Previously, he was a founding executive at Cloud.com (acquired by Citrix in 2011) serving as its Chief Evangelist & Vice President of corporate development. Prior to joining Cloud.com, Kyle was Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategy at Wachovia Capital Partners (acquiring Hosting.com). Prior to Wachovia, he held executive leadership positions at Sun Microsystems, acquired by Oracle in 2009, leading the Web 2.0, Internet, Cloud and Next Generation Service Providers organization. Before Sun Microsystems, Kyle was Corporate Technologist for Software & Strategic Technology at AMD leading strategy focused on building software ecosystems and strategic alliances around 64-bit, virtualization and multi-core technology. Before AMD, Kyle was a senior engineer for Topspin Communications developing Infiniband HPC technology (acquired by Cisco in 2005). Kyle MacDonald also founded Flare Networks and served as Executive Vice President & CTO from it’s founding in 1998 until its acquisition in 2003. Kyle studied Sociology and Economics at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO.
Gustavo Luiz Duarte (Brazil) - Developer in Linux environments for a decade now, has already contributed for various free software projects. Currently working at IBM Linux Technology Center as a mantainer of the Fedora distro for the POWER architecture.
Hellekin (Cyberspace) – Nomadic raver, interstitial resistor, infinitesimal shifter, peripheral vision, etc., Hellekin got hooked to the Internet via IRC, *nix and GNU/Linux about 20 years ago. Since then he's been exploring ways to emancipate himself and others using free software exclusively. He joined the Lorea project in 2009 in Amsterdam and has been acquainted with the Dyne Foundation, the Hackerspaces community, and then 15M/Occupy/Globalsquare movements. He's part of the SocialSwarm and an avid supporter of PSYC/Secushare. He currently resides in his sleeping bag that follows him across the world.
Ramón Ramón (Espanha) – Profissional de TIC conhecido no âmbito do Conhecimento Livre na Espanha e América Latina. É Gerente de Desenvolvimento de Negocio para a América Latina na “Ándago Ingeniería”, Especialista em Software Livre e Administrações Públicas, Consultor Internacional em Tecnologias da Informação, ex-Vicepresidente da Hispalinux e fundador da Iniciativa Focus. É assessor de diversos projetos e países, como o Plano Diretor de TIC do Governo do Paraguai e o “Clúster Productivo especializado en Tecnologías Libres y Abiertas de Entre Ríos”, promovido pelo Ministério de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação Produtiva da Argentina. É conhecedor do desenvolvimento do Governo Aberto na Espanha e do Software Livre a nível internacional.
Deirdré Straughan (Estados Unidos) - É uma inovadora nas tecnologias da comunicação, indo da escrita técnica ao UI design. Ela é especialista nos novos usos da mídia, produzindo, nos anos recentes, centenas de vídeos técnicos para a Sun Microsystems, Oracle e Joyent, incluindo streams de vídeos ao vivo. Trabalha atualmente para a Joyent como Community Architect para a SmartOS e illumos open souce communities.
Antonio Terceiro - Desenvolvedor de software livre. Colabora com vários projetos, mas especialmente com os projetos Debian, Noosfero e Foswiki. Doutor em Ciência da Computação pela Universidade Federal da Bahia. Sócio fundador e desenvolvedor na Colivre.
Michael Hanselmann - Trabalha para o Google Switzerland como Administrador de Sistemas, especificamente no desenvolvimento do projeto Ganeti. Ele mantem um projeto de hosting há 7 anos, participou no desenvolvimento do Gentoo por 5 anos e meio e contribuiu para diferentes projetos de Software Livre, incluindo o Linux Kernel.
Richard Esplin – (EUA) Richard Esplin ajuda a construir comunidades de desenvolvedores em Alfresco, criando ferramentas para criar e compartilhar grandes trabalhos. Como defensor do software livre, ele se juntou à Alfresco para ver nascer uma empresa open source por dentro, aprendendo como o gerenciamento de conteúdo pode resolver muitos problemas.
Gregório Robles (Espanha) – Professor da Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, em Madri, Espanha. Seu trabalho de pesquisa é centrado no estudo do desenvolvimento de software livre pelo ponto de vista da engenharia. Desenvolveu e colaborou na concepção de programas para automatizar a análise de softwares livres e as ferramentas utilizada para produzi-los, como CVSAnalY.
Nelson Lago - (Brasil) Gerente Técnico do Centro de Competência em Software Livre do IME/USP, onde trabalha pela divulgação do software livre, além de doutorando do Departamento de Ciência da Computação da Universidade de São Paulo. É graduado em música pela Escola de Comunicações e Artes da USP e mestre em ciência da computação pelo IME/USP. Participou do processo de criação da ONG LinuxSP. Atuou como administrador de sistemas em um dos primeiros provedores comerciais de acesso à Internet em São Paulo (That's Internet!), totalmente baseado em software livre.
Deborah Bryant (USA) – Open source advocate since 1996 and collaborator at osuosl.org for six years. Internationally known for her work on free software use incentive at the public sector, she currently is a consultant for governments worldwide in ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) adoption strategies. Bryant works in various non-profit boards in defense of open source, such as opensource.org, osdv.org, codeforamerica.org.
Ana Cristina Fricke Matte (Brazil) - Teacher at FALE/UFMG and PhD in semiotics from USP, she founded the group Texto Livre (Free Text, in portuguese) in 2006, in which she has been working with Free Software from development to disclosure. Member of the SLEducacional since the begining of the group, interdisciplinar researcher in language and technology, coordinator of the lab SEMIOTEC and main editor of the scientific journal Texto Livre: Linguagem e Tecnologia. With Texto Livre she organizes the events EVIDOSOL/CILTEC-online (Virtual Meeting on Free Software Documentation and International Congress of Online Language and Technology), STIS (SEMIOTEC Theoretical Interdisciplinar Seminars), UEADSL (University, Distant Learning and Free Software) and the Free Culture Day, an annual meeting at UFMG (Minas Gerais Federal University), and also runs the Portal do Professor Livre na Rede.
Daniela Feitosa (Brazil) - founding member of Colivre, where she works as software developer and courses instructor, she currently is a release manager for Noosfero, the Free Software platform for social networks (yes, the same one we use to run fisl!). Agile practices enthusiast, specifically Test Driven development and Pair Programming. PSL-BA collaborator, she has worked for the Bahia Free Software Festival and other community projects. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Computing Science from Bahia Federal University.
Amir Taak (England) - Game developer, Amir became known as the person behind Bitcoin Project. He´s been dedicating exclusively to free software development in the last 10 years.
Alberto Azevedo (Brazil) - has a degree in IT by CEFET-PR, has more than 15 years of experience in IT, is a specialist in corporate networks security and security standards. He was general director at "Nova Era Informática e Telemática" and creator of the security methodology "ESP-h". Enthusiast and hacktivist in the Free Software Movement, he is the leader of the Project Security Experts Team and speaker in international events. Currently works as security advisor for large companies in Brazil.
Aurélio Heckert (Brazil) - Developer, digital graphics professional and Free Software Evangelist. Noosfero and Inkscape Team member, besides contributing to various other projects and users groups. He is a co-founder and contributor to PSL-BA, TWikiBrasil, Inkscape Brasil and COLIVRE - Cooperativa de Tecnologias Livres.
Seth Schoen (USA) - Seth has been working for the Electronic Frontier Foundation for more than 10 years and currently he is part of EFF´s senior tech staff. In these 10 years, he has contributed to the betterment of the public understanding of technology and their implications in the civil liberties. He helped create the live mini-distro LNX-BBC, and researched events such as forensic tracking in printer codes, packet adulteration by internet providers (isp´s) and password recovery in ram memory with computers turned off.
Randal L. Schwartz (USA) - also known as the "Perl Magician", he is the co-author of various widely used books about that language. He also writes about Perl for regular columns in specialized tech magazines. Randal popularized the “Just another Perl hacker signature program”. He is a founding member of the Perl Mongers, the worldwide base organization for Perl defenders, and member of the Squeak Oversight Board, which supervises the Squeak programming language. He became a fisl fan, and is coming for the third time.
Deivi Lopes Kuhn (Brazil) - Economist, by the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul and post-graduate at the Universidade Federal de Lavras (MG) in Linux Network Administration. Deivi is an employee to SERPRO (the federal data processing organization) where he worked as a Local Network Admin, Development Projects Leader, Advisor to the Executive Board and Free Software Strategic Coordinator. Currently, he is Projects Coordinator at the Budget and Planning Secretary at the government of the Brazilian Federal District. Founding Associate to ASL and active member of the Brazilian Free Software community.
Thomas Soares (Brazil) - Metallurgical engineer with a masters in Materials Science, he is a Free Software activist since 1994. Systems admin and network security researcher, currently he works for the Energy Revolution, developing research about the hidrpxy (HHO), electric motors (keppe) and energy generators (perendev, searl, bedini).
Pedro Paranaguá (Brazil) - professor, law and intellectual property public policies consultant, Internet and communication, has more than 10 years of national and international experience, has a master degree (cum laudae) in Intellectual Property, Internet and Policy from the University of London. Is a PhD student in the field of Intellectual Property, Internet and Policy in the Duke University.
Dave Coffin (USA) - creator of dcraw, a tool to develop raw image files from reflex cameras. Dcraw has become a standard, over its 15 years of activity, among GNU/Linux distros, and is also the basis in which other software build their compatibility with these kind of files. Because raw files from reflex cameras are preferred for advanced and professional photography, it can be said that dcraw bridges the gap for free software to work in this specific professional niche.
Jean Baptiste Kempf (France) - developer and musician, JB is the president of VideoLan, a free software community that develops video projects - notably VLC, the popular open source multimedia player.
Niibe Yukata (Japan) - One of the founders
and current president of the Japan Free Software Initiative, Gniibe contributes to the GNU Project since 1989 and is a Debian Developer since 2005. He is also the main author of Gnuk, a free software for criptography token implementation (OpenPGP) and of the FST-01, a USB microcomputer.
Jon Maddog Hall (USA) - Founder and president of Linux Internacional, he has more than 40 years in the software industry. He devotes most of his time in free software events all over the world, and according to him, fisl is the largest community event in the planet. He is a confirmed presence every year, but not less interesting because of that, for the community, which, besides crowding his speeches, keeps taking many pictures by his side.
Yorik Van Havre (Belgium/Brazil) - Architect, freelance, designer and free software maniac, Yorik showcases with his portfolio that it is possible to work in graphic design (and architecture!) with free softwares. He is an active collaborator to the Blender and FreeCad communities, and shares tutorials, code, scripts, themes, models and others in Creative Commons for these softwares.
Duda Nogueira (Brazil) - communication professional and Free Software enthusiast, Duda is an author of the Duda Library, an effort from a community interested in building open educational resources, thus contributing to the use of information and communication technologies in education.
Marcelo Branco (Brazil) - Former coordinator to the Associação Software Livre.org, he was one of the Conexões Globais 2.0's creators. Marcelo was also the coordinator of the social networks strategy to the candidate elect Dilma Rousseff, to the Presidency of Brazil. Three times general director of the Campus Party Brasil, and worked to the spanish Generalitat de Catalunya government, as a counselor to the strategy for Free Software in the government. He is an evangelist and one of the founders of the Projeto Software Livre Brasil.
Sérgio Amadeu da Silveira (Brazil) - sociologist, advocate and Free Software evangelist and also to Digital Inclusion in Brazil, he was one of the creators of the Telecentros Project in Latin America, and President of the National Institute of Information Technology. Sérgio holds a PhD in Political Science from the São Paulo University, and currently is an associate professor to the ABC Federal University (UFABC), where he co-leads a research group Digital Culture and Sharing Networks.
Paulo Meirelles - (Brazil) - PhD student in the Computing Science Department from São Paulo University. Since 2004 he is a member of the group “Project Software Livre Rio Grande do Norte” (PSL-RN), where he collaborates in free software popularization both in its social, tech and legal aspects. He is an associate to the NGO “Associação Software Livre” (ASL.org) since 2006. He contributes to three free software projects: Analizo, Kalibro e Mezuro. Has articles published in both national and international conferences and gave courses and speeches in many national free software events.
Bruno Souza - (Brazil) - founder and leader of the SouJava, elected for the JCP's Executive Committee in May. That's the most important committee for the definition of standards to the Java technology. From 2007 to 2009 Bruno was a conselor to the Open Source Initiative administration, where he currently holds an Emeritus status.
