Battle against copyright goes way beyond software

Free culture goes way beyond software and codes. The debate "Copyfight: well beyond free download" was one of the highlights of the first day of Fisl14. Copyright, sharing and piracy were quoted in the discussion, which developed between the tech environment and the movement's common eye in search of diversity and cultural universality.

Beyond the virtual world, the strugle for free culture has implications in social questions, in the change of work processes and even in food production. Tadzia Maia, from the Free Seeds Defence Net, defended the social role of the movement which can contribute with many sectors of society, reaching even primary sectors, such as agriculture and the indian tribes.

Fostering the exchange of knowledge, broadening production freedom and ensuring access to information were other issues pointed out by participants in the panel. One of the authors of the book that is the subject of the panel, Bruno tarin, quoted the direct link of "free culture" to enterpreneurship and creative capacity and added value, in the final product. To him, the movement started in Free Software is implicating in a change of work routines in society.

The debate had the presence of the authors of the book, Adriano Belissário and Bruno Tarin, also Tadzia Maia, author of an article and participantof the Free Seeds Defence Net, Lucas Santos, coordinator of the Culture Workgroup, the swedish Tobias Andersson, co-founder of Pirate Bay, and Leonardo Foletto, participant at Casa da Cultura Digital Porto Alegre and editor of the website BaixaCultura.
