We grow and evolve on the daily basis and with us, our culture. At least, in an utopian world, that's how things should work. In digital times, where content sharing and collaborative actions, turns every user into a producer, there is almost no more room for the following phrase "all rights reserved". In a new world where the Internet plays a essential role in people's daily lives, a review of current copyright law is more than necessary, but it has not yet come.

While that, content producers seek solutions to this impasse. One of the most successful initiatives is the Creative Commons, a nonprofit organization that offers greater flexibility in the use of works protected by copyright. The goal is to have an author/creator authorize a wider use of their works by others, without those being violating laws protecting intellectual property.

Through the Creative Commons license, composers may allow other artists to use some of his compositions to create a new rhythm, a writer may authorize the publication of his works to be used by other authors or media, applying some of the content in a new article or by using the general, but making changes.

One of the central features of the Internet is this "liberal spirit", ensuring a more collaborative environment when compared with other media. The rigid laws of copyright protection have not been able to follow this process, making hard the will of some creators to cede their material, as well as other people use other author's creations and thus help in sharing the work of all.

But make no mistake, the CC does not mean loss of profits, but dissemination of work. Using the Creative Commons license, authors can allow the use of their material in a more flexible, creating conditions so that your work has a higher visibility, deciding under what circumstances his work can be used by others. For example, a musician can release its composition to be used in a remix, except if it is used for commercial purposes, in other words, there is freedom without taking the original author the possibility of generating income. You can charge if your creation is used in commercial activities. Therefore, open not only your head, but rethink and see the possibilities that the use of Creative Commons can bring to you and our culture.
