Torsten Grote - Germany

He has always been interested in topics of technology-enabled social and political change. He has a degree in computer science as well as philosophy and has specialized in Free Software and related aspects of digital freedom. Since 2007 Torsten is an active member of the Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE). There he started the "Free Your Android" campaign to educate people about how they can use mobile devices in freedom and have their privacy respected. He still runs the campaign and coordinates the efforts to make mobile freedom accessible to everybody. In his day job, Torsten works for a real Free Software company that develops Kolab, a groupware solution for personal information management. Kolab not only challenges Microsoft Exchange, but also set out to replace GMail in order to enable people to regain control over their data. Torsten works as an Evangelist for Kolab Systems and functions has the Community Manager of the Kolab.org Community.

Ophelia Van Campenhout - Belgium

She has been a member of the Drupal community for several years and was a key organizer of DrupalCamp Belgium. She is an expert on Frontend and Mobile. She is learning Portuguese and loves Brazil. She works as a freelancer at Nordic Material.

Peter Zaitsev - Russia

Peter co-founded Percona in 2006, assuming the role of CEO. Percona helps companies of all sizes maximize their success with MySQL. Percona was named to the Inc. 5000 in 2013. Peter was an early employee at MySQL AB, eventually leading the company's High Performance Group. A serial entrepreneur, Peter co-founded his first startup while attending Moscow State University where he majored in Computer Science. As CEO of Percona, Peter enjoys mixing business leadership with hands on technical expertise. Peter is co-author of High Performance MySQL published by O'Reilly, one of the most popular books on MySQL performance. Peter blogs regularly on MySQLPerformanceBlog.com and speaks frequently at conferences. Peter lives in North Carolina with his wife and two children. In his spare time, Peter enjoys travel and spending time outdoors.

Seth Schoen - USA

Senior Staff Technologist of Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). He has worked at EFF over a decade, creating the Staff Technologist position and helping other technologists understand the civil liberties implications of their work, EFF staff better understand technology related to EFF's legal work, and the public understand what products they use really do. He helped create the LNX-BBC live CD and has researched phenomena including laser printer forensic tracking codes, ISP packet spoofing, and key recovery from computer RAM after a computer has been turned off.

Otavio Salvador - BRA

Otavio Salvador is a Debian Developer, coordinated the release of the Debian Installer for 3 versions. Works with Free Software since 1999, actively contributing to many projects such as GNU Parted, APT, Linux Kernel, U-Boot, among others. Nowadays he focuses in embedded systems and participates in the Yocto Project and in the OpenEmbedded as developer and maintainer of various project' components.

Fridrich Strba - Slovakia

Fridrich is a Free Software evangelist and enthusiast. He worked in the base code for LibreOffice for many years, improving aspects of the file filters, starting with the wordperfect filter. After that, he migrated to security issues and filters to other formats such as Wordperfect Graphics, MS Works, Visio, among others. Currently he works for SUSE in SUSE Linux Enterprise. Fridrich keeps working in his spare time to free proprietary formats from vendor lockin. He also leads as a mentor by feeding and supplying new developers to the project. Being a polyglot and interested in languages, you can always approach him and try to see if he understands your mother tongue.

Leonardo Lazarte - BRA

Has been promoting the usage of Free Software in many areas, such as the implementation of the Internet in Brazil in the 90's, and in educational technologies. In the University of Brasilia (UnB) he coordinatesthe project Centro de Difusão de Tecnologia e Conhecimento, CDTC (Center of Dissemination of Technology and Knowledge), kickstarted in 2004, in a partnership with Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia da informação, ITI (National Institue of Information Technology), with support from IBM Brasil. He also promotes initiatives of Open Knowledge such as the Recursos Educaionais Abertos (Open Educational Resources) and Arquivos Abertos (Open Archives). Is a teacher at the Math Department from UnB. He coordinated the implementation of the Mercosul Virtual School. Currently he is a IT coordinator in Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia, IBICT (Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology).

Kévin Ottens - FRA

He is an experient developer in the KDE community. He actively contributes to the community, with emphasis in API design and frameworks architecture. He has a PhD in artificial intelligence which lead him to concentrate in engineering onthologies and multiagent systems. Kevin's work at KDAB is about daily work with Qt. He still lives in Tolouse, where he works part time in his old university.

Jérémie Zimmermann - FRA

Co-founder of La Quadrature du Net (Squaring the Net), a citizens group devoted to raise awareness about law projects that threaten civil liberties, as well as economic and social development  in the digital age. He also is April's vice-president, an NGO devoted to promote and protect Free Software.

Alfredo Goldman - BRA

He has a bachelor's degree in applied math by the University of São Paulo (1990), masters in applied math by the University of São Paulo (1994) and a PhD in  Informatique et Systèmes - Institut National Polythecnique De Grenoble (1999). Currently he is a teacher and director of the Centro de Competência em Software Livre da USP (USP' Center for Competence in Free Software), associate Editor for the magazine Parallel Computing, works at the committee of conferences program such as XP, IPDPS, IEEE NCA, ICPP, JSSPP, SBAC, SBRC, SBES e SBQS.

 
Sascha Meinrath - USA

Pioneer in the communities and Internet culture, Sascha is a vice-president of New America Foundation and director of Open Technology Institute. He leads the project "Internet in a Suitcase", an effort to disseminate the wireless technologies in decentralized ad-hoc networks (mesh networks). That's what he is coming to Fisl15 to talk about.
 
Jon "maddog" Hall - USA

Executive Director of Linux International, an association of big comanies with international relevance in the IT world which promote operating systems based on Linux. He is one of the most well-known worldwide technology activists.
