The Hacker Round is a programming workshop specifically conceived for girls and women. A meeting for those wishing to imagine and build amazing projects and recreate network technologies.
The workshop, an edition specially designed for FISL15 will happen in May, 7, from 8:00AM to 6:00PM. For each five participants there will be a tutor with the necessary skills. The tutors have different styles and skills - designing and programming sites, developing games, dealing with databases, creating apps for social networks. The six-people teams will be organized according to the subjects that participants wish to develop
Together, these six people will develop a site, blog or app - using the combination of everybody's skills. A good tip is to think in simple projects: the best strategy is to choose something that fits in the time restraint.
The project came up from the notion that there are a few women acting in the Internet area, like engineering or programming. "It is hard to sort out whether the historically low number of women acting in the field that feeds the male stereotype, or is the stereotype that prevents women to participate more as Internet creators. The fact is, we need do something to change this. Break the prejudices in order to have an Internet that is actually open, diverse and fair."
The Internet is one of the most important spaces of social, political and cultural participation in the world, and girls want to foster female leadership in programming and create new opportunities of reality transformation.
Be welcome, girls!
