The FISL at School is a proposal of the FISL14 Education Working Group to promote the inclusion of schools with innovative proposals using free software. Each selected school will be scheduled to participate along with two or three presenters in Porto Alegre. The long-distance participation will take place at the Paulo Freire room of the forum.

The school will have 20 minutes to transmit an activity – something that can be filmed and that is representative of the work done in school – for the event and after the transmission there will be a discussion and analysis led by guest speakers. The final 20 minutes will be reserved for interaction between students and teachers of the school and the public at FISL.

The Education Working Group will form a committee to select the participating schools. Selection criteria will focus on: a) merit of the school activity as an example of the use of free software for educational purposes, b) the distribution of schools across the country, c) technical capability of the school to participate, which will be discussed with the committee during the selection process in order to ensure the possibility for schools even with limited technical resources to participate.

The proposals to be sent to the e-mail must contain:

  • Name of School
  • Name and e-mails of the person or people responsible for the school's activity and their relationship with the institution (teacher, guest, contractor etc.).
  • School Information
  • City/State
  • Education level of the school (elementary, middle, high-school, etc.)
  • Whether the school is public or private
  • Brief description of the activities undertaken using free software
  • Description of the activity to be performed during FISL14.
  • A letter explaining why they consider the schools participation at FISL important
  • A video of 10 to 15 minutes in length presenting the proposed activity and the school.

Schools should submit their proposals by May 20th, 2013 to
