Net neutrality is the main subject of the 12th International Free Software Forum

fisl is the oldest and one of the largests technology events in the country and the largest meeting of free software communities in Latin America.

From June, 29 to July, 2, Porto Alegre will host one of the main events for discussion and popularization of free software in the world. The 12th edition of the International Free Software Forum (fisl) will take place at the PUCRS Center of Events, and will develop activities for various different areas.

Supported by the Sociedade Brasileira de Computação (Brazilian Computing Society, SBC, in portuguese) and promoted by the Associação Software Livre (Free Software Association, ASL.org, in portuguese), the International Free Software Forum expects to gather more than eight thousand people this year. Over 450 activities, including speeches, workshops and community events will integrate users, programmers and technology developers.

Coming from the most diverse parts of Brazil and abroad, participants will be able to walk between the Solutions and Free Businesses Show and Fair, speech area, workshops and debates.

The net neutrality debate which nowadays gathers great momentum, specially in the United States and Europe, will be core subject of fisl12. Net neutrality means, basically, that online content shall be equally accessible to everybody with no interferences whatsoever in the online traffic.

"Just as streets are a public access good, also the internet paths shall be", stresses Thomas Soares, Assistant Coordinator of the Associação Software Livre (ASL).

Many attractions are planned for this year. fisl12 will have the presence of many of the main personalities in the free software world. Carol Smith, Google Summer of Code Administrator, Stormy Peters, Mozilla Developer Engagement Leader and Jared Smith, Fedora Project Leader will integrate the list of international speakers already confirmed for the 12th edition of the International Free Software Forum.
